The Making of Sgt Pepper

Originally broadcast as part of ITV’s The South Bank Show, The Making of Sgt. Pepper celebrates the 25th anniversary of the creation of this ground-breaking record album, which awed and entertained millions with its innovative musical arrangements and poetic lyrics. For the first time in one programme, The Beatles’ Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – as well as legendary producer George Martin – are all interviewed in-depth, offering their own distinct memories regarding the events of the Sgt. Pepper album. In addition, major participants to the record’s production, including engineers, technicians, musicians, album cover artists and musical commentators, present their recollections- allowing viewers a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse into the albums evolution.

The Making of Sgt. Pepper features the original recording session tapes from the album’s production heard here for the very first time. The creative process behind the production of such classic tunes as “Being for The Benefit of Mr Kite”, “She’s Leaving Home” and George Harrison’s memorable “Within You Without You’, is also highlighted, as well as many other distinct songs recorded for Sgt. Pepper.

Over 40 years after it’s creation, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band still amazes audiences and musicians alike with its artistic integrity and ingenuity. With archive footage, music of the era and probing, insightful interviews, The Making of Sgt.
